Union Democracy and School Reps

School Reps and School Councils are a key part of the Students' Union democracy and representative structure. School Reps and School Council officers are elected at Campus Election meetings open to students from the Schools based at that campus.
School Reps help to arrange Student Forum meetings which give students a chance to voice their opinions on matters which concern them. The School Councils provide School Reps with the chance to swap ideas and information and to pass student views and ideas onto the Students' Representative Council.
The Students' Representative Council (SRC) is made up of the President and 4 Vice Presidents, 8 volunteer SRC Officers (elected by cross campus ballot at the same time as the President & 4 VPs), and 22 School Council Officers (2 from each of the 11 Schools). The School Council Officers represent their School Councils and students from their School but as members of the SRC also take into account the wider interests of all students.

School Reps

School Reps are students elected to act as Students' Union representatives for their School. Each School has a number of School Reps (1 for each 250 students enrolled in that School), they are elected by students enrolled in that School. The School Reps work together as a School Council to represent the views of students in their School. They work with the Students' Representative Council (or SRC for short)  to ensure that their fellow students are represented on the University's committees and Academic Council. Each School Council elects two of their members as School Council Officers who are full members of the SRC and represent their School Council on the SRC.

School Reps can get Union volunteer recognition certificates for all the time they contribute. The Union's Volunteering Code of Conduct applies to School Reps, and sets out what volunteers can expect from the Union and what the Union expects of volunteers.

School Councils

School Council provide a forum for School Reps to discuss issues of concern to them and their fellow students, and enable School Reps to support and work together. The membership of the School Council is made up of the elected School Reps for that School. The School Council elects two of its members as School Councils Officers, the are full members of both the School Council and the SRC. Their role is to raise issues on behalf of their School Council to the SRC and to report back to the School Council on SRC meetings.

 Volunteer Student Reps

As well as elected School Reps, the Union has volunteer Student Reps, who act as student voice on all aspects of the studen experience covered by the University's Student Charter. The School Reps help arrange consultative Student Forum meetings with the Student Reps to get feedback on the issues that matter to students. If you are interested in being a Rep, but aren't sure you are ready for an elected post, you can always volunteer as a Student Rep. For more information, ask at any SUUG campus reception, check out the volunteering section of  this website, or email Karen Adomako, this year's Vice President Education.
