The Students' Union is a democratic organisation run by students for students. As well as providing a range of services for students, the Students' Union represents students and acts as the voice of the student body. Membership of the Union is open to all students registered on a programme of study at the University of Greenwich and is free.  All members can vote for and stand in the annual elections for Students' Union officers. The Students Union also provides a range of membership and commercial services for its members.

Union Democracy

School Councils represent students registered with their school on academic and other issues. The School Councils act as a forum for School Reps to raise issues of concern, provide information and other support to School reps, and as a forum for general debate and discussion on School issues.

School Reps are elected by students in their School to act as a student voice for that School. The School Reps form the School Council for their School and elect 2 School Council Officers to sit on the Students' Representative Council The Students' Representative Council (or SRC for short) provides democratic leadership and oversight of the Union. The membership of the SRC is made up of the President and 4 Vice Presidents, 8 SRC Officers elected by a cross campus ballot, and 2 School Council Officers from each School. The SRC works with School Councils to represent students and decides Union policy. Elections for President & Vice Presidents, SRC Officers and NUS Conference delegates are held in the second term and elections for School Reps are held in the first term.

The SRC reports to the Annual General Meeting (AGM) The AGM is held in the first term and is open to all students (a student resource card is needed to get in and vote). The general meeting decides Union finances and votes on policy ideas and reports submitted by the SRC. The General Meeting is the main democratic forum of the Union and any member of the Union can submit motions for debate.  The University cancels lectures when the AGM is called to allow all students who want to go to attend.
