Every university is given money, by the government, specifically to help those students who experience extreme financial difficulty. By offering these students some extra financial support, the University aims to reduce hardship and enable students to remain in higher education.
Eligibility
The Access to Learning Fund (ALF) is available for students to apply for. If an award is made, it is awarded as a fund rather than a loan, ie, you do not have to pay it back.
You must demonstrate that you are in need of financial assistance and that you have exhausted all other sources of financial support.
How to apply
The University's Student Services financial department administers these funds. You must provide details of your financial situation, showing both your income and expenditure.
Include originals, and a set of copies, of your Local Education Authority assessment letter, your student loan agreement and documentary evidence of any state benefits you receive, alongside details of any other sources of income. Give details of your expenditure, e.g. rent, childcare expenses, bills, University tuition fees (if applicable), plus any other information about your financial situation that may support your case. In all instances, documentary evidence must be provided.
