Extraordinary General Meeting to be held on Wednesday 13th February 2008 in Lecture Theatre KW315, Greenwich Campus, immediately after the conclusion of the AGM.

Motions for consideration, all submitted by the Students’ Representative Council

1.         That the University allocates and provides a place where Muslimstudents are able to conduct the Friday prayer between the hours of 1pm to 2pm during term time and which is capable of  accommodating the large number of Muslims who attend.

2.         That the University allocates and provides a prayer room which is capable of accommodating the increasing number of Muslim students and staff who require the use of such facilities at Avery Hill, Greenwich and Medway.

3.         That no classes, lectures or exams should be held during 1pm to  2pm on Friday afternoons, to allow people to carry out their  religious obligations to prevent Muslim students from having to  miss classes and lectures and therefore being disadvantaged and  not being on equal footing with their peers.

4.         That standard prices for food and drink in the SU outlets are the  same on each campus, in similar outlets, and that where they currently differ they revert to the current lowest price (subject to  local promotions and offers being excepted).

5.         That SUUG stops using polystyrene cups in all of its outlets, that it  works urgently towards Fairtrade status, and that it campaigns for  the University to adopt the same principles.

Amendments to the above motions must be received by the President by petition of 125 full members of the Union not later than 2pm on Wednesday 6th February 2008.

Virender Choudhary

SUUG  President
