The President of the Students' Union is the figurehead for the organisation and the first point of contact for many external organisations. The President's role is to co-ordinate the activities of the sabbatical team. The President is also the Chair of Staffing Committee, which decides policy on staffing issues.

 As well as the general sabbatical duties, the President is involved in the following;

-Make Presidential Rulings on the Interpretation of the Constitution between Students' Representative Council   Meetings and General Meetings.

- Act as the principal sabbatical officer for issues requiring staff liaison.
- Organise Referenda; chair the relevant membership meeting for Referenda and make Presidential Rulings on motions as required.
- Convene General Meetings and organise Extra-ordinary General Meetings as required; make Presidential Rulings on motions as required; set the agenda; chair the meeting (or nominate another); ensure minutes are accurate and correct.
-  Convene Students' Representative Council Meetings; chair the meetings (or nominate another), unless a conflict of interest arises; ensure minutes are accurate and correct.
- Convene Students' Representative Council Executive Meetings; chair the meetings (or nominate another); ensure minutes are accurate and correct.
- Act as an ex-officio Officer on Sports & Societies Council.
- Accept the resignations of any Sabbatical or Non-Sabbatical Officers.
- Sit on the Clubs & Societies Disciplinary Panels.
- Act as a signatory for the Unions Bank Accounts.
-  Accept disciplinary charges from the student body about students, and determine membership suspensions pending disciplinary action, and sit on the Disciplinary Panels.
- Accept complaints about students from the student body in general.
- Appoint a chairperson for the elections to Students' Representative Council and its Sub Committees.
 

Which Students' Union Committees does the President sit on?

-   Finance & General Purposes Committee - provide a full financial plan to the Students' Representative Council and University Court; select an auditor and be responsible for the completion of the audited accounts which are presented to the University Court and Union General Meeting; be responsible for co-ordinating the Union's Annual Report; consider complaints made by the student body against students.
-  Students' Representative Council - write reports for this body on your progress and any University Boards & Committees which you attend.
-   Students' Representative Council Executive.
 - Staffing Committee - acting as chair (where no conflict of interest exists).
