The position of Vice President Education is one mainly concerned with the education and academic issues of the Student Membership. It has a heavy focus on representation, be that with individual students, Student Reps or School Councils.
In particular the VP Education's duties are to:
- Be the principal Sabbatical Officer for Education and Academic issues.
- Act as the key officer for the organisation and democratic co-ordination of all academic representation systems within the University.
- Advise and co-ordinate the Students' Union on academic, educational and representational policy
- Provide individual and group support to the student membership on academic, educational and representational matters, including representation at academic appeals, maintaining papers records, observing confidentiality and liasing with the Students' Union Advice & Information Team.
- Act as an ex-officio officer on Sports & Societies Council.
- Accept disciplinary charges from the student body about students.
Which Students' Union Committees do I sit on?
- Finance & General Purposes Committee - provide a fully financial plan to the Students' Representative Council and University Court; select an auditor and be responsible for the completion of the audited accounts which are presented to the University Court and Union General Meeting; be responsible for co-ordinating the Union's Annual Report; consider complaints made by the student body against students.
- Students' Representative Council - write reports for this body on your progress and any University Boards & Committees which you attend.
- Students' Representative Council Executive.
- Staffing Committee - depending on who is drawn by lots.
